The Liberation of Women (??)

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Feminists of the world sit down before you read this. The Vatican newspaper says that perhaps the washing machine did more to liberate women in the 20th century than the pill or the right to work.

The submission was made in a lengthy article titled "The Washing Machine and the Liberation of Women - Put in the Detergent, Close the Lid and Relax."

The article was printed at the weekend in l'Osservatore Romano, the semi-official Vatican newspaper, to mark international Women's Day on Sunday.

"What in the 20th century did more to liberate Western women?," asks the article, which was written by a woman.

"The debate is heated. Some say the pill, some say abortion rights and some the right to work outside the home. Some, however, dare to go further: the washing machine," it says.

The Black Dog of Walnut Creek

I saw the pet dishes on the step at Lone Star Printing & Office Supply and figured that someone who works there (perhaps owner Bonnie Bartels) has a pet. And I thought the dish was inscribed "LoVeStar" and that seemed to be a very clever name for a pet that resides at Lone Star.

Well, today's Seguin Daily News article cleared up all of my 'suppositions' regarding these two dishes. Apparently there is a black dog who has eluded animal control and has come to be known as The Black Dog of Walnut Creek. As Mary Jo Filip writes in this article, the dog has become 'part of the local color of downtown and the creek area.'

Seguin Chamber of Commerce

The Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce moved into their new digs a few weeks ago and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 27th.

The donors were honored that evening and guests noted the improvements in this new facility.

With this new structure, the Chamber can do things that just weren't possible in the previous location. The Visitors Center is located under the same roof.
