ChiroJava

ChiroJava - a great place for a cup of coffee, a sandwich, soup, breakfast - and visiting with friends (on the corner of Donegan and Austin Streets). This chiropractor/coffee shop also supports local artists by displaying their works and local bands and singers perform there from time to time. A friend took a belly dancing class there several months ago! A real Happening Place! It is a great asset to downtown Seguin.

Dedication of Downtown Mural

The dedication of the downtown mural was held today. A cold windy day! Thus, the talks were short. The Mural Committee was applauded. The donors were applauded. The artist was lauded. Then everyone scurried into ChiroJava for coffee, cookies, and warmth.
The mural is indeed a nice addition to the Downtown Square. Signed and unsigned posters of the mural are available for purchase (unsigned: $25 and signed: $50). Monies are still needed in order to put a sealant on the mural.

Deputy Chief Reno Reiley Retires

Seguin Police Department will miss Deputy Chief Reno Reiley. Chief Reiley has been with the SPD for 35 years and he has made a difference. Not only has Reno been a dedicated, selfless, efficient police officer - he is a man of character. Last night there was a retirement celebration for Chief Reiley. He received well-deserved awards from the SPD, the Fire Department, and the Sheriff's office.

SEGUIN — When Reno Reiley went to work at the Seguin Police Department, the two-way radio officers could carry was about the size of a paving brick and weighed so much policemen tried to avoid using it.
“I don’t have any big plans,” Reiley said. “I’m going to stay involved with the police department, keep my reserve commission and be involved in some of the community programs the police have. Maybe I’ll go back to Germany for a visit within a few years, maybe to Bitburg or Hanover. I have distant relatives there.”

Seguin Doing Great!

Once a month, the Seguin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce hosts a "Lunch and Learn" program. The speakers address happenings and plans for the City of Seguin. This event is held in different restaurants in Seguin and yesterday was at All Occasions (a great caterer!). One really does learn as well as enjoying a nice meal. Kudos to the Chamber for offering this to the community.

Mayor Betty Ann Matthies talked about what has been happening in the city, what is planned for Seguin, and what is in progress. She borrowed KWED's slogan that "Everything's Fine in 2009!". Of course, the BIG news is that Caterpillar Corporation will be coming to Seguin. In the very near future, twenty-five families from the corporate office in Illinois will be moving to Seguin. Then, the potential for jobs and service companies and increased business for motels, restaurants, shopping - on and on - is very good!

Indeed, there are some great things happening in our city and it is exciting!

I Am Woman!

Psalm 45:9(a)
Daughters of kings are among your honored women...

I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back and pretend'
Cause I've heard it all before
And I've been down there on the floor
No one's ever going to keep me down again
{Helen Reddy}

I AM A WOMAN - Maria Muldaur
I can wash out forty-four pairs of socks
And have them hangin out on the line
I can starch and iron two dozen shirts
Before you can count from one to nine
I can scoop up a great big dipper
Full of lard from the drippin's can
Throw it in the skillet, go out and do my
Shopping and be back before it melts in the pan
'Cause I'm a woman
Double U O M A N
I'll say it again
I can rub and scrub till this old house
Is shinin like a dime
Feed the baby, grease the car and
Powder my face at the same time
Get all dressed up, go out and swing
Till four a.m. and then
Lay down at five, jump up at six
And start all over again
'Cause I'm a woman
Double U O M A N
I'll say it again
If you come to me sickly, you know
I'm gonna make you well
If you come to me hexed up,
You know I'm gonna break the spell
If you come to me hungry,
You know I'm gonna fill you full o' grits
If it's lovin' you're lackin, I'll kiss you
And give you the shiverin fits'
Cause I'm a woman
Double U O M A N
I'll say it again
I can stretch a greenback dollar bill
From here to kingdom come
I can play the numbers, pay my bills
And still end up with some
I got a twenty dollar gold piece says
There ain't nothin I can't do
I can make a dress out of a feed bag
And I can make a man out of you'
Cause I'm a woman
Double U O M A N
I'll say it again
'Cause I'm a woman
Double U O M A N
And that's all
