Give Blood

In our church parking lot yesterday, members of the congregation had an opportunity to donate blood.

The Red Cross has a nationwide system of sharing blood donation based on patient need.

Within the past few years, FUMC members have had this need.

Type O Negative blood is called the "universal blood type" because it can be transferred to people of all blood types.

Donating blood is a safe process. A person can donate blood once every 56 days. Patients scheduled for surgery may be eligible to donate blood for themselves in the weeks before non-emergency surgery in a process known as autologous donation.

It is Winter - but we are ready for Spring!

The gardening supplies next to the firewood in the H-E-B display at the entrance indicates that although it is winter, we are gearing up for Spring.
I've been sending Hubby to the grocery store for so long that it was very instructional for me to stroll through our local H-E-B grocery store. Of course I had a list in hand but roamed almost all of the aisles, noticing the jump in prices for vegetables and canned goods. Well - paper products and other items seemed to have a price increase, also.
That's how it goes . . .

"Flowers seem the solace of ordinary humanity."

There are several flower shops in Seguin and I think I've done business with all of them!

The folks at Dietz Flower Shop are extremely helpful, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is very accommodating.
ALSO, there is a 24-hour vending machine where one can purchase flower arrangements (all sizes, all varieties, and various price ranges).
Flowers bring cheer . . . and comfort . . . and beauty.
"If you've never been thrilled to the
very edges of your soul by a flower
in spring bloom, maybe your soul
has never been in bloom."

Up in the air

Made a fast trip
to Tuesday Morning
the other day
(I love Tuesday Morning!)
and noticed a pickup pulling a bucket truck (Cherry Picker - hubby calls it) - maneuvering around the light
pole.
Of course, I whipped out the camera to snap some snaps!

SPD Firing Range

For several years the SPD paid to use a firing range for practice. However, this past year, on the old landfill on Stagecoach Road, a firing range was built for the police department. This is just the first phase of the $140,000 training facility begun by now-retired Police Chief Luis Collazo as a way to replace the facility the police practiced at for decades.
The facility is named for the the Stephen and Mary Birch Foundation because the intial funding was obtained from the Birch Foundation.
At the opening ceremony on December 5, 2008, Mayor Betty Ann Matthis fired the first shot.

Seguin Watertower

This watertower is behind the library and as I came out, arms loaded with books, saw this figure at the very top putting the ladder in place.

I wish all of the watertowers were painted this bright white with the blue lettering; I think it is very pretty!
